Steve Greydanus over at Decent Films has written an eloquent review of the latest Robin Hood flick which premiers today. And he isn't happy.
"I’m just so sick of this. This grim, joyless, faux-realist medieval world, with its constant brutality, hypocrisy and debauchery all but unmoved by beauty, serenity and humanity.
I’m sick of movies in this King Arthur / Kingdom of of Heaven mold that seem almost entirely lacking in sympathy and affection for their hero’s world."
Are you with Steve and looking for a taste of the real Middle Ages? A good movie set in the Middle Ages? An absorbing medieval murder mystery? Planning to throw a bash worthy of King Henry II? It's all here.
The University of Oregon has got you covered.
And the piece de resistance: authentic medieval insults!
"Tu sochors! Tu scibalum hedi! Tu scibalum ouis! Tu scibalum equi! Tu fimus bouis! Tu stercus porci! Tu hominis stercus! Tu canis scibalum! Tu uulpis scibalum! Tu muricipis scibalum! Tu galline stercus! Tu asini scibalum! Tu uulpicule omnium uulpiculorum! Tu uulpis cauda! Tu uulpis barba! Tu nebris uulpiculi! Tu uechors et semichors! Tu scurra!"
Watch it, Fr. MIke. I'm armed and dangerous.
